The project began as a practical response to the difficulty of surveying the web by sector without relying on search engine results filtered by commercial interest. Every entry in Tribune63 is filed on the same documentary basis: the site is active, its subject area can be determined, and a correspondent has verified the domain at time of recording. The gazette does not rank, score, or endorse entries. It records them. This approach keeps the roll useful as a neutral reference point for researchers, market analysts, journalists, and anyone who simply wants to know what kinds of sites operate in a given field. The 22 bureaux cover areas from clinical healthcare and legal services to gaming, print trade, and general commerce — enough to map most of the web's active territory. Tribune63 accepts submissions from site owners and operators. Submitted entries are reviewed by correspondents before admission; the review is lightweight but ensures entries are live and appropriately filed under one of the 22 bureaux. There is no charge for inclusion. The roll is updated on a rolling basis as new entries clear review and existing entries are rechecked. The name Tribune63 takes after the tradition of numbered editions in print gazetteer publishing — a reference to the cumulative, edition-based model of documentary cataloguing that predates the web by centuries. The aim is a web directory built with the care and neutrality of a good almanac: comprehensive, factually grounded, and free from promotional distortion.
